United States Rep. Virginia Foxx (N.C.-5) has voted to fund infrastructure for economic development by boosting highway funding, increasing support for aviation and addressing critical housing needs.

The FY06 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Bill boosts federal highway spending by $37 billion and FAA funding by $14 billion.

“By improving our highways and airports we will certainly increase economic development in the Fifth District and bring in news jobs,” said Foxx. “I am pleased that we have taken a good step in this direction.”

The bill will also increase funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Provisions include:

Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (Section 8 vouchers) is funded at $15.53 billion, $765 million over last year and $314 million below the request. Funding for the renewal of vouchers is significantly increased by $735 million to restore the reduction mandated last year and fund all anticipated increases in the costs.

HOME Investments Partnership is level funded at $1.9 billion, $41 million below the request, but increases the amount for the formula to participating jurisdictions by $60 million above the requested amount.

Foxx said that she is pleased that the House has passed all appropriations bills on time and under budget before the August recess for the first time since 1995.

“This demonstrates my commitment to reducing the federal budget deficit. Our non-defense and non-homeland security discretionary spending has been reduced,” she said.
