FOXX TO SPEAK AT WORKSHOP ON WOMEN IN PUBLIC SERVICE

RALEIGH - Pre-registration has begun for “Women at the Table: Preparing Women for Public Service,” a one-day workshop designed to help prepare women interested in public service. The workshop, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center in Boone, will open with a presentation by U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx.

The workshop is expected to attract women from western North Carolina interested in facilitating change in their communities by running for elected office or serving on appointed boards and commissions.

The workshop is sponsored by the North Carolina Center for Women in Public Service, a joint initiative of the Women’s Forum of North Carolina and Peace College. The N.C. Center for Women in Public Service is a nonpartisan organization that prepares women to seek and serve in public office. Support comes from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, Sprint Corporation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation and other sponsors, and individual contributors.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center on the campus of Appalachian State University. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The $30 registration fee includes lunch, refreshments and all needed materials. Pre-registration information is available by e-mailing nccwps@peace. edu or calling 919-508-2308. Online registration is available at http://www.nccwps. org. Pre-registration is encouraged, although walkins will be gladly accepted. Walk-ins pay a registration fee of $35; women who register in groups of two or more pay $25 each.

The Women’s Forum, founded in 1976, is an organization through which women work together to achieve equality and maintain social, economic and political power for women.
