U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5th, visited with officials at three Triad community banks yesterday as part of her "listening" tour of area business sectors.

Foxx conducted a question-and-answer session at Southern Community Bank and Trust in Winston-Salem, Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust in Elkin and Bank of the Carolinas in Mocksville.

Among the topics discussed was Foxx's position on the cost of corporate governance for community banks and the competition between banks and credit unions.

Foxx said she is in favor of less regulation on companies that are operating legally and ethically, but punishing "to the hilt" those businesses and officials who operate illegally. She said she is still forming her opinion on a potential House bill that could affect how credit unions are regulated. The bill has the support of many bank groups.
