A 2007 graduate of Watauga High School and current Appalachian State student has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy.

In a congressional press release, it was announced today that Christopher Todd Wehner, of Boone, has been accepted as one of the 1,500 midshipmen to enter into the 2012 class of the Naval Academy. Wehner was chosen from an applicant base of over 10,000 students.

To be accepted into one of the service academies, one must be nominated by the Vice President, a member of the United States Congress, or a qualified military group.  Virginia Foxx, of the House of Representatives, nominated Wehner.

Foxx said, “We are fortunate to have Christopher preparing to serve in our Armed Forces and owe him a great debt of gratitude for his willingness to do so.”

Upon accepting, Wehner will report to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland this summer.
