WSJS Radio Fifth District Congresswoman Virginia Foxx was a co-sponsor of an anti-stalking bill that passed the U.S. House on Tuesday. Foxx joined California Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar in backing the measure that strengthens the federal stalking laws. Foxx said the bill closes loopholes and gives prosecutors better footing to stand on. "To insure victims are protected and offenders are punished, we'er clarifying existing laws and then we give law enforcement additional tools to prevent and prosecute stalking as it relates to digital or cyber stalking," said Foxx. ESPN reporter Erin Andrews was on hand Tuesday as the bill went before the House. Andrews was the victim of a stalker who videotaped her through hotel peepholes when she was traveling. She talked about how difficult it was to prosecute the man who was stalking her because of all the loopholes in the stalking laws. Foxx said she now hopes the Senate will be able to pass the companion version of the bill by next week. |
