The widow of a World War II veteran who fought the Japanese in the Pacific during his time in the Navy received a series of medals on his behalf yesterday.

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, R-5th, presented the Navy Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal (with one Silver Star and four Bronze Stars) Combat Action Ribbon, Discharge Button and Honorable Service Lapel Pin to Geneva Storeyat her home in Clemmons.

Her husband, Harry Albert Storey, earned the awards during his time with the Navy from 1942-1946, but they had been lost over the years, Foxx said.

Storey served on the destroyer USS Hazelwood and was severely injured during the battle for Okinawa, for which he also received the Purple Heart.
