Foxx Pushes For Future Interstate Designation of US-74
Washington,

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on the introduction of her standalone bill that would designate US-74 as a future interstate: “As a vital corridor to freight transportation and access to western and southern North Carolina, US-74’s status within the state warrants immediate action to increase its efficiency, accessibility, and long-term viability. There is no doubt that a future interstate designation will present innumerable opportunities for economic growth and sustainability within Cleveland, Gaston, and Rutherford Counties – ultimately supporting both longstanding and prospective industries within the state for years to come. Further, the state can install signs immediately that recognize the designation. “I’ve legislated to secure economic development in the 5th district without earmarks over the last decade, and my support for this designation is no different. This legislation doesn’t cost federal taxpayers a dime, and it is proof positive that defending both the economic vitality of this district and taxpayer funds are not mutually exclusive. It’s my sincere belief that the earmark system is beneath us, and I place the district above any other with respect to our economic determination. My bill puts the needs of North Carolina’s economy, and especially its proud citizens, first. I look forward to it being brought to the floor of the People’s House for an immediate vote.” ### |
