WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement regarding the Biden Administration’s ongoing negotiations to revive the Iran nuclear deal and reports of related concessions by the U.S. government:

“The Biden Administration’s heedless pursuit of a nuclear deal with Iran to quell our dependence on Russian oil is the epitome of incompetence. In doing so, the United States would be exchanging its reliance on one malignant regime for another – with no regard for the energy capabilities we possess right here in our own country. This reckless move is showing the world that when it comes to pursuing energy freedom on our own terms, the policies and political agenda of this administration have no teeth whatsoever.

“The calculus in this decision will not work in America’s favor. Instead of doing what’s necessary – like opening the Keystone XL pipeline, decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, and empowering liquified natural gas exports – we are being led into a political minefield where there will be innumerable consequences. Sacrificing America’s geopolitical leverage by appealing to our enemies is appalling, and it’s the last thing that should ever be considered. President Biden must stop putting American interests last.”
