Protecting and encouraging a strong family is of vital importance to our nation’s progress and prosperity. We should continue to promote policies in Washington that allow families to flourish and that protect life at all stages. Taxpayers certainly should not be on the hook for paying for any abortion procedures, as was the case during the Biden-Harris administration. During the first Trump administration, the Department of Health and Human Services rightly promoted the “Protect Life Rule” that prevents funds from Title X to be used for counseling or referring women to abortion services. In June of 2026, I co-led a letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to reissue the Protect Life Rule to ensure taxpayer dollars do not fund abortions. This Congress, I re-introduced H.R. 650, the Families’ Rights and Responsibilities Act. Parents love and know their children best, not the government. The Families’ Rights and Responsibilities Act will protect the right of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and health care of their children by requiring courts apply the “strict scrutiny” test. This means the government cannot intrude on parenting choices simply because it disagrees with a child’s parents. Instead, the government will have to prove compelling interest before interfering in parental educational choices, moral and religious guidance, and physical and mental health care decisions. I am committed also to fighting the travesty of human trafficking. Human trafficking is modern-day slavery, pervasive yet often unnoticed, occurring “underground” every day amid ordinary functions in the public square. Estimates by the International Labor Organization indicate that, globally, 27.6 million people are trafficked, around 4.5 million of whom are victims of forced sexual exploitation. Over half are subjected to forced labor, 12% are children and 39.4% are women and girls. Strikingly, these abuses constitute a $226 billion worldwide industry. In North Carolina alone there were 235 instances of human trafficking reported in 2023. An example of my efforts to combat human trafficking is H.R. 9043, the Sex Trafficking Reduction Act, of which I am an original cosponsor. Significant efforts have been made to reduce the supply of trafficked people; it is equally important to reduce the demand that fuels this evil market. This bill strengthens the criteria used in the State Department’s annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report and establishes a ranking system from Tier 1 to Tier 3. If a nation is placed in Tier 3 for failing to make serious efforts to curb the demand for prostitution, it may face restrictions on foreign aid. Combating human trafficking requires a coordinated effort among our partner nations. It is my belief that the United States must work with our international partners to address both the supply and demand that allows human trafficking to persist. Our nation was built on Judeo-Christian values, and we must not turn our backs on these principles. While the First Amendment to the Constitution explicitly states that Congress shall make no law establishing a state religion, it also prohibits Congress from prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The First Amendment guarantees Americans the freedom to think, speak, and believe as they choose. To force Americans to check their religious beliefs at the door when engaging in any sort of public debate is wrong. I will fight to maintain our rights and to honor and carry on our religious heritage. As a direct attack against these values in our country, the far-left has attempted to erase 50 years of advancement for women and erase the identity of young women across the country. The Biden-Harris administration repeatedly made it clear that men dressing up as women are more important than actual women by undermining Title IX. Title IX funds have been used for decades to support women’s sports in college and high school. It is my belief that women should continue to have spaces free from men, especially those masquerading as women. This is why I am a cosponsor of H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This bill prohibits schools and federally funded institutions from allowing individuals men to participate in athletic programs designated for women and girls. I am also a cosponsor of H.R. 9701, the Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act. This bill explicit limits membership to biological women.
