With my Republican colleagues, I remain committed to bringing patient-centered health care that works for the American people. I support a wide range of reforms to the health care system. This includes legislation to put patients first, bring down costs and expand choices for families, end medical malpractice lawsuits that drive up the cost of health care, and restore competition through association health plans for small businesses.
During the 119th Congress we passed legislation to:
- Expand eligibility for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
- Removes barriers to affordable and convenient telehealth
- Expand access to trusted care providers through direct primary care
- Preserve the long-term viability of Medicaid
While serving as Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee, I helped usher H.R. 6703, the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, to the House floor. This bill’s passage offers greater choice, transparency, and increased competition to the healthcare system. Among other improvements, H.R. 6703:
- Lowers healthcare premiums by 11% through cost-sharing reduction payments
- Requires pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to be transparent with employers, empowering small businesses to negotiate better deals and lower drug costs for workers
- Allows small business owners and independent workers to form Association Health Plans and protects stop-loss insurance for small employers
- Protects small businesses from costly regulatory overreach
Patients should always have the information they need to make informed health care decisions – this includes understanding the true costs associated with care. That is why I proudly introduced and secured unanimous committee passage of H.R. 8684, the Transparency in Billing Act of 2026. This bill reaffirms what should already be standard practice, that hospitals should only be allowed to bill at the correct price for the site of care where services are rendered. This bill will provide savings for both employers and workers by preventing hospitals from billing too much for care provided at out-patient departments. This legislation tackles healthcare costs head on by making prices more transparent for consumers, driving value in the marketplace by increasing competition and ultimately reducing prices.
To shield patients from surprise medical bills, beyond what they would normally pay for in-network care, I co-authored the bipartisan No Surprises Act which was signed into law by President Trump in 2020. This legislation removes an emotional hardship for sick and suffering Americans and saves taxpayers money.
Many Americans are one emergency medical bill away from financial hardship, and I remain committed to help lower prescription drug prices, help patients anticipate costs, and make healthcare more accessible.
