Congresswoman Virginia Foxx Celebrates the Accomplishments of Recent Graduates

During Strayer University's regional commencement ceremony in Charlotte, N.C., Congresswoman Virginia Foxx was on hand to address the graduating Class of 2013 and their guests.

Congresswoman Foxx is serving her fifth term representing North Carolina's 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. She is chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Higher Education and also serves on the House Committee on Rules. She began her career in the field of higher education, which included serving as a sociology instructor at Appalachian State University and holding several administrative positions at ASU, including assistant dean of the General College. She also served as president of Mayland Community College.

During the ceremony, Congresswoman Foxx delivered the keynote address. "Education is the key to shaping a strong workforce in this nation, and these graduates have taken the right initiative and put in a ton of hard work to improve their future," says Congresswoman Foxx, who spent 10 years in the North Carolina State Senate before serving on Capitol Hill. "I am honored to celebrate the completion of this latest stage in their academic journey with them and look forward to seeing how the class of 2013 succeeds."

The Charlotte, N.C., commencement marked Strayer University's fourth ceremony of 2013. Later this year, Strayer University will hold two more ceremonies at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 26, and the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Md., on Dec. 7.
