Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Strengthening Transparency in Higher Education Act: “Students and families must wade through massive and often conflicting amounts of information in order to make informed college decisions,” said Rep. Foxx. “The Higher Education Act (HEA) alone requires 26 different categories of information be available, and there are many additional state and federal requirements. Our bill will streamline the overwhelming maze of information with a consumer-tested College Dashboard. The College Dashboard will provide students with key information: enrollment, completion, net price, and average loan debt and Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data.” “With college costs steadily rising, prospective students need to make informed decisions about their future; the Strengthening Transparency in Higher Education Act will help them to do just that.” The legislation passed the House Committee on Education and the Workforce with bipartisan support and then cleared the House by voice vote, and now goes before the Senate for consideration. # # # # # # Congresswoman Virginia Foxx is currently in her fifth term as the Representative of North Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District and is the elected Republican Conference Secretary. Dr. Foxx is the chair of the House Education & the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and serves as Vice Chair of the House Rules Committee.
