"During the same week an Obama global warming advisor stated that a 'war on coal is exactly what's needed,' Republicans are working to lower energy costs, move our country away from dependence on foreign oil and create jobs. This stands in stark contrast to President Obama's energy priorities. Under his Environmental Protection Agency, 17 North Carolina coal units are being shut down - citing EPA policies as a reason, gas prices remain high and the shovel-ready Keystone XL Pipeline remains stalled. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) today welcomed rising Sophomore McKenzie Chasteen of Boone to the United States Capitol to celebrate her winning submission to the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. McKenzie and her mother, Kim Chasteen, met Foxx and joined champion high school artists from around the United States for a ceremony in their honor and a tour of the Capitol grounds.

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05) praised the hearing. “Congressman Mark Meadows is wise to call this timely hearing examining the impact of federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations on employee safety and individual North Carolina mines,” Foxx said in a statement. “A strong relationship between the mining industry and the federal MSHA, grounded in sensible standards and effective regulations, is necessary to ensure mine safety is maintained and industry growth unimpeded.”
