Boone Student Wins Congressional Art Contest

Foxx's Regulatory Transparency Legislation Advances from House Oversight Committee

Wednesday evening, bipartisan regulatory transparency legislation sponsored by Representatives Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), James Lankford (R-OK), Mike McIntyre (D-NC) and Collin Peterson (D-MN) successfully advanced from the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act, H.R. 899, will fix loopholes within the bipartisan regulatory reform act known as UMRA.

Final Student Loan Reform “Almost Identical” to House-Passed Bill

That proposal – the Smarter Solutions for Students Act authored by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) – got tangled up in gridlock and division among Senate Democrats, who were so committed to extending the status quo that they left town and let interest rates on some loans double. “Republicans took political advantage of the fissure among Democrats” to secure a victory for students and their families with a final bill that one member of the Senate majority grudgingly admits is “almost identical to that passed by a … Republican-led House.”
