WASHINGTON – Today the House passed H.R. 50, the Unfunded Mandates Information and Transparency Act (UMITA) introduced by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) by a bipartisan vote of 230 - 168. UMITA strengthens the bipartisan Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995 (UMRA) by closing loopholes that allow the federal government to work around the transparency process. It also expands the scope of UMRA cost analyses to the private sector. Rep. Foxx stated, “Americans are tired of far-off Washington bureaucrats... Read more

Each year, Washington imposes thousands of pages of rules and regulations on America’s commerce, our respective states, and local governments. Buried in those pages are costly, unfunded federal mandates that make it harder for businesses to hire and cash-strapped states, counties, and cities to serve their citizens. What’s more, under current law, the federal government can skirt public scrutiny in the rulemaking process, making it difficult for state and local leaders to plan and propose altern... Read more

Every year Washington bureaucrats impose thousands of regulatory mandates on state and local governments and small businesses. These mandates always come with a price—which is usually not paid by the federal government. Unfunded mandates strain city and state budgets; who pass costs on to North Carolina taxpayers and businesses. Businesses are then often forced to choose between employees and compliance. This far too common deferral of costs points to missing factors in Washington bureaucrats’ r... Read more

The House Education and the Workforce Committee has scheduled a Wednesday hearing on three Republican bills that would represent some of the most far-reaching changes to federal labor law in decades. The legislation would mainly change the rules for workplace organizing elections, setting higher bars for unions to win. Republican members of the committee argue the bills would balance the elections by ensuring that unions prevail only when they have definite majority support from workers. Democra... Read more

WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives today passed legislation that includes language by Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., to shed light on how policies from federal financial agencies impact the budgets of state and local governments and private sector employers. Republican House members introduced two bills Tuesday intended to roll back recent rules changes by the National Labor Relations Board, the main federal labor law enforcement agency. The lawmakers argue the board under former President Barack Obama's administration tilted too far in favor of unions. "Workers deserve the opportunity to make a fully informed decision on whether or not to join a union, and that's exactly what this legislation is about," said Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich. "After years o... Read more

President Donald Trump reversed another eleventh-hour Obama administration regulation, rolling back Democrats' effort to push private sector workers into state government retirement plans. Trump signed House Resolution 66 on Wednesday, undoing a regulation adopted by the Department of Labor on October 31, 2016. The department's rule would have allowed state and local governments to create IRA accounts for private sector workers and automatically deduct contributions from their paychecks without ... WASHINGTON – Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., today voted in favor of a resolution of disapproval that blocks an Obama administration regulation forcing states to include abortion providers as recipients of Title X grant distributions. “States have always had the freedom to direct funds away from abortion providers,” said Foxx during remarks on the House floor. “Not only does this regulation ignore the American people's wish that their tax dollars be directed away from abortion providers, it also den... What about the Do Not Call Registry? It doesn't cover debt collector calls or those from charities, political groups or surveys. Those entities can call you all they want at least for now. Although just last week, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx introduced House Bill 740 "ROBO Calls Off Phones Act" or ROBO COP act. It would expand the 'Do Not Call Registry" to include political Robocalls, not all political calls, just the ones done by machine. 2WTK will keep you updated on this. In the meantime, her...
